Appalachian State returns home Saturday night looking to remain unbeaten when the Mountaineers host Charlotte at Kidd Brewer Stadium in an in-state matchup.

The game, scheduled for a 6 p.m. ET kickoff, will be App State's annual Black Saturday game and will be televised on ESPN+. The matchup is officially sold out.

Mountaineers Enter 2-0

App State enters the contest 2-0 after opening the season with a 55-3 home victory over Maine before earning a 27-24 road win at East Carolina last Saturday.

The Mountaineers have shown strong offensive production through their first two games while also making key plays defensively. App State held a double-digit lead for nearly 28 of the final 40 minutes against ECU before holding on for the three-point victory.

Head coach Dowell Loggains is in his second season at the helm, and App State is 2-0 for the second consecutive year under Loggains.

Singleton Leads the Offense

Quarterback Malachi Singleton has been one of the key figures in App State's fast start.

Through his first two starts, Singleton has completed 42 of 52 passes for 558 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His 80.8 percent completion rate ranks sixth nationally among FBS quarterbacks entering the weekend.

The Mountaineers have also received consistent production from their running backs. Jaquari Lewis and Treyaun Webb have each scored rushing touchdowns in both of App State's first two games.

Defensively, Caleb Sandstrom has made an impact up front. He enters the Charlotte game with 3.0 sacks, a total that places him among the national leaders. Sandstrom also forced a key fumble against ECU that helped set up a go-ahead App State touchdown.

Charlotte Looking for First Win

Charlotte enters the matchup 0-2 after a difficult start to the 2026 season.

The 49ers opened the campaign with a 43-41 triple-overtime loss to The Citadel before traveling to face Ole Miss, where they fell 41-9 after trailing 27-0 at halftime.

Second-year Charlotte head coach Tim Albin will now take his team into Kidd Brewer Stadium looking for the program's first win of the season.

App State Owns Series Advantage

App State has won all four previous meetings against Charlotte at the FBS level.

The Mountaineers opened the Loggains era with a 34-11 victory at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium last season. The previous meeting came in the 2020 season opener, when App State won 35-20 at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Saturday's matchup will give Charlotte another opportunity to challenge App State on the road, while the Mountaineers will look to continue their unbeaten start.

A Special Night at The Rock

The game will be a significant occasion for App State fans, with the Black Saturday celebration marking only the fourth Saturday night home game of the Mountaineers' FBS era.

Kidd Brewer Stadium has also developed into one of the more consistently attended venues in college football. Saturday's sellout will be App State's 17th sellout in its last 19 home games.

With App State entering at 2-0 and Charlotte searching for its first victory, the Mountaineers and 49ers will meet under the lights in Boone with both teams looking to make their mark early in the 2026 season.
